Gingerbread cookies
On this page, we're sharing our most beloved French-Canadian, Acadian and Québécois dishes : classics from grand-maman. Here is a childhood classic, the gingerbread cookie.
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a bowl, combine the shortening and sugar. Beat to a cream consistency. Use a stand mixer if desired.
In another bowl, dissolve the baking soda in the molasses. Add this mixture to the bowl of shortening and sugar, as well as the vinegar.
In another bowl, combine the flour, salt and all the spices. Gradually add to the cream mixture. Mix well until you have a cookie dough.
Spread the dough on a floured surface about 1/8 "(0.33 cm) thick. Cut the cookies into the desired shapes. Place them on a greased baking sheet.
Bake for 8-10 minutes (large cookies) or 4 minutes (small).
