Occupations in New-France and Canada
Was your ancestor a chaudronnier, a lavandière or a négociant? Can’t figure out what a portefaix did for a living? Let’s dive into the occupations our ancestors had hundreds of years ago. Click on the image for a translation and description of the occupation.
Note: Any occupation name ending in “euse” instead or “eur”, “ère” instead of “er”, “ienne” instead of “ien” is simply the feminine version of the word. Examples: la boulangère, la cabaretière, la cardeuse.
Having a bad work day? It could be worse.
